Update Your Button Down (Without Becoming a Fashion Victim)

April 11, 2016

Turn your walk of shame into  a runway walk. Ok, maybe it is not a walk of shame maybe more like a walk to the grocery store when you haven’t done laundry but once again the IT girls of fashion have changed the typical boyfriend’s button down shirt into a fashion statement!

By wearing the men’s button down shirt backwards, it’s as if they have proven the Big Bang Theory. Vogue was doing backflips over how chic and stylish this new look has become. I am sure you have already seen it on a few different blogs but the question I am asking…would you dare to really wear the backwards look?

(Take a look here for style reference)

I tried it as I was preparing for my day and I did not like it, the cut of the shirt in the front looked frumpy and the sleeves didn’t fit right, the back is sexy but it looks a bit ridiculous to me… so with that said I thought of …

3 Ways to Update the Boyfriend Shirt

(without looking like a style victim)

  1. The Tunic

This look is simple…put the shirt on and wear it! You can tie a jacket around your waist to add a bit versatility to this look. I also flip the collar down so it opens up the center of the shirt when the buttons are undone (a little less modest).

2.  The Twist

This is pretty explanatory don’t forget about this 90’s essential!

Tie the two flaps in the front of the shirt together and you can decide just how much or little skin you want to show.

3. The IT Girl

This is my favorite way to style a button down shirt– wear it off one shoulder or both. To accomplish this look it is good if you have a full coverage bralette, the one I am wearing has 2 straps on each side and 2 coming from the center of the bra over the shoulders, of course you can wear a tank top as well.

The IT Girl vs. The Fashion Vicitm… the saga continues but do what is right for you! If you feel good in your clothes then you look good but sometimes you feel really uncomfortable and you look even better!

How do you feel about the backwards shirt trend?

That backwards shirt on Leandra (from ManReppeler) looks ridiculous, like many other pieces on her, to be totally honest. So, I can’t imagine myself following that trend. I like how you styled Boifriend Shirt. xx

  5. I like the backwards shirt look but I haven’t tried it out yet. I have tried the off the shoulder thing and that didn’t work out at all for me, it felt way too tight on the shoulders (I was doing this with one of my shirts though) and bunched up weirdly at the arm seams. Looks great on you though! I will have to play around with one of my boyfriend’s shirts for some extra fabric.

These are great ideas! I love the twist one, and those shoes! As for wearing it backwards I think it would look ridiculous on me as well. Though it looks great on some people.

Great post, girlie! I really love how the “it girl” style looks with the bralette underneath, so cute and a style I’d like to try! I also like the look of the backwards shirt trend, too, but it depends on the shirt because I personally think it can look awkward with some styles. Thanks so much for sharing and I hope you have a wonderful week ahead, beauty!
