Everyone knows I am Pinner (is that what it’s called?). I am Pinterest obsessed! I just think it is a great place to find inspiration from fashion to cooking to interior decor… it is all there. It is a search engine and mood board all in one.
In the beginning I was in Pinterest denial as well, I didn’t really see the point and I didn’t have time to DIY my entire life. My changing point was the first time I came to Switzerland to meet my then boyfriend’s parents.
They’re old school, the whole country is a bit old school and I was new school, too damn new school. I was on my career women game. For me it was delivery every night or I made “salad” and I used car service more that I would like to admit. I knew uber drivers by name, before Uber was what it is now.
So as you can imagine I am trying extra hard to impress my boyfriend’s mother, my sisters met her a couple of years ago and said she could give Martha Stewart a run for her money, so you know it was no easy feat.
She is really sweet and laid back so she didn’t have me jumping through hoops and she didn’t even make it a point that she speaks 7 languages fluently and I said I speak Spanish but couldn’t finish a sentence.
I mean, everyone says they speak Spanish! I took 12 years of it, I feel like I should be able to at least fake it.
Anyhow, one night before dinner she came to me and said “Oh, Falasha. You are American. I don’t like a lot of American salad dressings but I really love blue cheese dressing. Will you make this for our salad tonight? I am sure you know a great recipe from the US.”
I about died.
Quick recap: I didn’t know blue cheese was an actual cheese. I sure as hell didn’t know you could make cheese into a salad dressing. Let alone from scratch. I also really hated blue cheese dressing, because the only kind I had ever tasted was the kind that comes with chicken wings. And typing this it sounds silly but I am just being honest.
I calmly looked at her repressing my shock that this was a thing and said “Of course, no problem.”
Soon as she turned her back I began searching for my phone and thought check Pinterest!
I quickly found a great recipe, but I had to keep my phone a bit hidden as to look like I knew it from memory because I totally make salad dressing all the time.
I whipped up the
best only salad dressing of my life, and it was compliments all around. From that day forward I was a passionate cook. I cook all kinds of recipes from Pinterest. I credit Pinterest for the reason my now Mother-In-Law did not forbid our relationship right in that moment. To this day she swears I am a great cook and I have come a long way in my own right.
Now, I proudly make the best blue cheese salad dressing (and I actually do like it). I found my love for cooking and even add my own recipes from time to time.
I host dinner parties and am a real food snob, oh and have a very happy husband! He was down for the Take-away All the Time Falasha so he got more than he bargained for… I know a lot of us are out there, so I am here to rescue you from the nasty, watery blue cheese dressings of the world and change your life.
Follow me on Pinterest. I have a board called “Reservations:Must Try Recipes” where I pin every single day what I cook that night and I add my own photos to the pinned photos.
I also have a special holiday board just for Thanksgiving that I am using for the 3rd consecutive year to host my annual Thanksgiving in Switzerland.
If you need ideas check it out, I can vouch it is all DELICIOUS.
(includes fun games and decor)
And of course you need the perfect cooking supplies. I got you… here are a list of my most loved cooking appliances!
Here is a basic list, some I put twice because you can invest with a little more money if you think you will be hosting for years to come.
Are you the cooking type and will you be hosting Thanksgiving this year? I hope this helps ease the holiday stress or at least provide a quick laugh.
