As promised on Monday I would tell you all about the luxurious gem of the Kronenhof Grand Hotel in Pontresina, Switzerland.
I think you can be easily underwhelmed when it comes to a “Grand Hotel”. There comes that moment when it is not so grand… more like over priced and overrated. There are so many places that continue to be boasted by their reputation with out much merit.
I will tell you I had only the best of experiences at the Kronenhof. I know I have talked about race and classism a few times on the blog but one reason I want to share these experiences is because it is a rare fate that when I dine or attend a luxury hotel or restaurant I do not receive odd looks. The patrons and employees wonder how Bennie and I can afford to dine or stay at these establishments.
We have embraced this as expected curiosity, can’t let anyone dampen your good time.
People stare in curiosity contemplating if they have seen us on TV or a rap video at one time or another. At the Kronenhof we were treated beyond our expectations with no issues. The staff are smart, experienced and polite and the patrons are classy and kind.
No snooty remarks or rude looks. Thank God!
Everyone was down to earth and the child friendly atmosphere was nice because it was down-to-earth.
We did not see any other Black people during our holiday stay but it was not made a point or highlighted to us as it had been during other holidays or in other establishments where they assume you do not know what truffles are or automatically suggest Moscato as your wine for the evening.
The Kronenhof is refined luxury, not too young, not too old and a lot of fun. The mix of young families, and couples, a few group of friends and everyone is active and ready to have a great retreat to be spoiled by the amazing staff.
There was not one request that was not taken care of right away by the dedicated staff at the Kronenhof.
We took a day trip to hike to the beautiful Morteratsch Ice Glacier and then headed back to the hotel for a quick work out followed by an amazing Spa and Wellness massage treatment, a dip in the steam bath and off to dinner… not too bad for a Saturday, right?
The five course meal does not disappoint. Every plate more delectable than the last.
Every detail from the decor to hand written notes. I am astonished by their excellence. I will be comparing everywhere to their gold standard.
