How to Wear Grey Knit

October 17, 2017

Grey knits are versatile, comfortable and stylish. A cardigan, sweater, skirt or dress; grey knit wear can be easily dressed up or down. I decided to dress these pieces up a bit and here is another favorite grey knit style of mine.

When I was younger I remember someone telling me woman over 30 shouldn’t wear short skirts. And at my tender age that made complete sense, I mean 30 was like dirt old…  Now as 30 is excitingly creeping around the corner and I am pushing a baby stroller I find myself wondering how short is too short?

When Kim K. was kept posing naked after she had North, the first cries were from people saying… “…but she’s a mom” so is the 30 Rule overshadowed by the Baby Rule?

I have no clue y’all.

Can I just be great in my mini skirt and knee high boots?

What is the other rule? Show your legs cover up your boobs and vice versa.

Oh, rules are meant to be bent a little.

grey-knit-set-skirt-outfit-fall-fashionI have for the most part retired this sexy grey knit outfit I wore to Art Basel a couple of years ago but today the skirt came out of retirement.

Grey Knit might as well be considered my sweat pants. I am trying to live in knits for the rest of the year. I want knit blankets and sweaters. Just give me it all!grey-knit-set-skirt-outfit-fall-fashion

grey-knit-set-skirt-outfit-fall-fashionSo, while this look comes off as a bit done up, it is so comfortable. The shirt is loose and light but warm enough and while the skirt is on the shorter side it does not ride up.

Beware of fabrics on skirts that roll up as you walk because you will be pulling at it and adjusting all day.

grey-knit-set-skirt-outfit-fall-fashionThese Strategia boots are my all time favorite so get used to seeing them a lot this fall and winter. They are on the expensive side but this a worthy splurge.

I got these for Christmas while I was pregnant and wanted sexy shoes that I could run errands in after my pregnancy. A shoe that is sexy and practical is worth the splurge because they are unicorns!grey-knit-set-skirt-outfit-fall-fashion

My Styling Tips:

  • For skirts or dresses choose a fabric that is tightly knitted and has a bit of weight to it (feels heavy) so that it will not loose its shape as you wear it and it will not ride up as you move.
  • Knit tops should flow, they look best when they move away from the body, when selecting a size stay true to your size unless otherwise noted, they are usually cut a bit large.
  • Knitted cardigans in grey are perfect for all seasons and adding in a print will only add to the styling possibilities.

So let me know, are you a fashion rule follower? What is the most ridiculous rule you know? No white after labor day? No faded colors. No black with blue?

Oh all these rule are so ridiculous. And you went to Art Basel how cool, I use to work for the publisher of the magazine they put out, I never worked on this title but my coworker did, she does an amazing job. And this all grey look is perfect for fall. I am a big fan of grey. Love your photos.

  20. Love this outfit, it looks so good with the OTK boots! I used to pay attention to rules a lot but I think ever since we started wearing sneakers with dresses they’ve pretty much become irrelevant. But I do like to make sure my mini skirts cover my bum decently haha.

Fashion rules are meant to be broken. You look great and as long as you feel great about yourself then you keep wearing whatever accomplishes that. I am now 35 and the older I get the easier it is for me to go with the flow of what feels right for me, rather then what everyone else says is right. I just posted on wearing a white dress for fall (breaking the labour day rule). 🙂

  30. I keep to some of the fashion rules and break some ridiculous ones. You rocked this outfit 100%. I remember some of the critics that clawed Kim for her choices after she had North. It’s sad how society places some of these obnoxious rules for women. Btw, Mini skirts that roll up are a complete nightmare to me, the thought of all that adjusting throughout the day wears me out.
I can’t wait to see how you style these boots in future posts.
