Why you Should Not Go to a “Yelp” Spa?

April 27, 2015

I have never been a girly-girl, I mean don’t get me wrong I enjoy high heels and make up as much as the next girl but I am far from high maintenance. Outside of a quick mani/ pedi at the cheapest place with the highest yelp review I am pretty easy going but… my life changed when I started going to the SPA.

Herer are my 3 favorite Spas around the world…

Disclaimer, obviously all of these Spas can also be found on Yelp, but their reputation far proceeds the endorsement of yelp.

waldorf_astoria_spaSPA: Guerlain Spa

LOCATION: Waldorf Astoria New York City, New York

SERVICES RECEIVED: Full Body Couple’s Massage

The first time I went to a spa, and I am not talking about the walk-in spas that you see in every suburban shopping center but an actual spa was at the Waldorf Astoria Guerlain Spa in New York City, it was amazing. The ambience was so relaxing and the massages were magical. I had the pleasure of being with my fiancé and this was part of the surprise he booked when he proposed. The Waldorf Astoria is known for it’s excellence and the Guerlain Spa did not disappoint. The price point is high but the experience is unforgettable, they have numerous packages but be prepared to pay.

There was champagne and chocolates and every detail down to the aromas in the massage were to spoil you. We were greeted and escorted into the room where we were instructed to shower and disrobe. The massage beds felt like clouds and I am pretty sure the blankets were heated. Whatever you are going through a great life event or a bad one, this spa will make it all better!

I would save up money instead of a gel manicure every two weeks at the around-the-corner-spa  for an entire year to go to the Guerlain Spa, if that is what it takes. It is actually life changing. (That’s a fact).

I was so excited I filmed a quick video! You can watch it HERE.

waldorfastoria_spa_guerlinNow, there is a theme with my Spa experiences they have always been gifts because honestly prior as I said it is not something I really saw myself being into but now… I am ready to venture out and book my own spa experience.

SPA: 36.5 Wellbeing & Thermal Spa

LOCATION: Grand Resort Bad Ragaz, Switzerland

SERVICES RECEIVED: Full Body Massage, Sauana and Pool Access

One of the best parts of going to the spa is the pure decadence. You have a sense of relaxation and the staff is very polite. The 36.5 Wellbeing & Thermal Spa in the Bad Ragaz region of Switzerland at the Grand Resort Hotel was like something out of a movie. They seem to cater to a large majority of older, Russian clients so I am sure seeing my fiancé and I frolic around the spa after a day of sledding was- well let’s just say we received a few smiles and a few side eyes while we were at this establishment. No worries though, the staff was amazing, the decor was as gaudy as I’ve seen and it made for a very fun day!

We received full body massages in separate rooms so it wasn’t quite as romantic as the Guerlain Spa, but my massage was great and my masseuse gave me a few bottles of the oil to take home :-). I love a freebie haha. After the massages we went to their pool which looks like it could be a part of a Roman church with the grand beauty of it all. The Tamine Therme(Wellbeing Thermal) Bad Ragaz Spa uses natural spring water that is naturally kept at 36.5 degrees Celsius (97.7  Fahrenheit) to heat all of the baths and pools in the middle of the snow covered mountains. There also a multitude of saunas, we made our our way around each of the saunas in about 15 minute increments including the Swarovski Crystal sauna. This is a fully naked facility so be prepared to see a lot of unmentionables. If you have never been to the sauna this may not be the beginner’s choice.

bad_ragaz_spaI promise you outside of all this fancy amazing-ness there is a small local Swiss restaurant  a short walk away that is the perfect way to end your Spa day. While it’s great to be fancy at the Spa, as I mentioned  we went sledding earlier in the day and by the time we left the Spa we really wanted to feast. We walked in blind to a little restaurant, The Close and ordered their Cheeseburgers for two. It was honestly, one of the BEST Cheeseburgers I have ever had in my life.

SPA: Thermalbad & Spa

LOCATION: Hurlimann Area Zurich, Switzerland

SERVICES RECEIVED: Full Body Massage, Sauana and Pool Access

For an engagement gift my fiance and I were sent to the Hürlimann Area for a Spa Day. This was certainly the most fun spa I have ever been too. They have massive thermal baths with bubbles and different temperature and you guide yourself through the entire place.

The old Hürlimann Brewery of 1836 has been renovated into a beautiful contemporary hotel and Thermal bath and spa, the water is naturally-heated from a nearby spring. The spa is across the street from Google and you would never know it was a spa but you disappear to a new place once you enter. huerlimann_areal_spahuerlimann+areal+spa+switzerlandOnce you move through the spa you will make your way to the rooftop and there is a beautiful pool with one of the best views of Zurich. Most of the spas featured have a no photos policy so these are a mix of my personal photos and courtesy of Google. spa+switzerland

Wow! I am starting to get into going to spas, and the way I find them is through Yelp because it’s the easiest. But man, the 36.5 Wellbeing & Thermal Spa looks AMAZING!

      Hi Deasy,
I love the spa now… I didn’t find any of these on Yelp but, I’m sure they all are listed. I have found the best way to identify a great spa is on reputation (how ppl survived pre-yelp lol)

  3. That looks nice!

I’ve never had spa treatment before. I’ve heard of how exquisite the Waldorf is, but with your recommendation I’m definitely going to try them out someday soon. And, whenever I go to Switzerland, I will be checking out The Close (their food looks tempting) and I definitely want to see the view from Hurlimann Area Zurich, Switzerland. Thank you for sharing your experience with us.

Btw, will you be interested in collaborating with me?
